Teeth Cleaning

Combining regular brushing and flossing with an annual dentist’s office visit will not only give you a more confident smile, but it will also help protect you from tooth decay, tooth loss, and periodontal disease, also known as gum disease.

The harmony of the smile is determined not only by the shape, the position, and the color of the teeth, but also by the gingival tissues. Complaints of “black gums” are common, particularly in patients having a very high smile line.

Gingival depigmentation is a periodontal plastic surgical procedure whereby the gingival hyperpigmentation is removed or reduced. The first and foremost indication for depigmentation is patient demand for improved esthetics.

Gingivectomy is the removal of gum tissue (gingiva) by surgery. Gingivoplasty is a type of gum surgery used to reshape healthy gum tissue around teeth. It is more commonly used to remove overgrown gum tissue and improve the appearance of gums.

Gingivoplasty often is done simply to make gums look better. They may have an unusual shape or may not be formed normally. Gingivoplasty reshapes the gums to make them look more natural. It often is done alone, but can be done during or after a gingivectomy.
